AJCCA Strengthens ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Ties and Government Engagement at Boracay Meeting

(Boracay Island, Philippines) – Cybersecurity Communities of Practice that belong to the ASEAN Japan Cybersecurity Community Alliance (AJCCA) held their quarterly Board Meeting here in Boracay last May 2025 to share best practices with each other and their counterparts in government through the ASEAN Japan Cybersecurity Technical Working Group (TWG).

“It is an honor for the Philippines to host the second quarter of 2025 board meeting of the AJCCA, in parallel with the hosting of the Cybersecurity Bureau (CSB) of the Philippine government’s Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) of their government counterparts simultaneously,” Lito Averia, President of the Philippine Computer Emergency Response Team (PH-CERT), one of the community founders of AJCCA, said. “We hope that our colleagues in AJCCA and the ASEAN Japan Cybersecurity Working Group (AJCWG) have productive parallel and joint meetings to protect our region from global, regional and country threat actors.”

Dr. Rudi Lumanto, AJCCA Founding Chairman, said through an online message that the consistent board meetings of the AJCCA representing the industry and academe, and the strategic relationship continues to be strengthened with government organizations in these quarterly joint meetings. Chairman Rudi further emphasized that the communities in the region should continue to be vigilant and collectively build cyber resilience, drive cybersecurity innovation, and use AI to protect digital assets and personal identities.

During the AJCCA Board meeting, the AJCCA member communities each presented their respective country programs and invited collaboration amongst each other to amplify each other’s impact in their countries and the whole region. One of the highlighted projects is the Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) initiative launched early in the year, and which has now consistently issued monthly reports shared within the AJCWG community.

“CTI is at the heart of our service to the region,” Chairman Rudi said. “This is a free service that we give to the community to help organizations and countries to strengthen their cyber ecosystem and anticipate current and future cyber attacks,” he added.

The development of women in cybersecurity were also prominently shared by the member communities, as well as driving cyber security for national competitive advantage. The board meeting also approved the holding of the second AJCCA Cybersecurity Resilience Awards (ACRA), which will culminate in the 2nd AJCCA Regional Cybersecurity in Tokyo University, in Tokyo Japan on October 10, 2025.

During the AJCWG joint meeting, AJCCA Vice Chairman Dr. Hiroshi Esaki shared the community initiatives and asked for deeper collaboration between government, industry and academe. Sharil Hussin, AJCCA member, also shared how to strengthen the ASEAN Japan CTI collaboration.

The meetings ended with an invitation to the 2025 3rd quarter meeting of the ASEAN Japan Cybersecurity Working Group (AJCWG) in Jakarta, Indonesia in August 2025.
