ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Community Alliance Releases Key Survey Findings on Public-Private Cooperation.

Bangkok, February 8, 2024 - In the wake of a successful two-day inaugural board meeting in Bangkok, the ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Community Alliance (AJCCA) has unveiled insightful results from its latest survey focused on public-private cybersecurity cooperation. The survey, a first of its kind, is designed to gauge the effectiveness of current partnerships and to set a benchmark for future improvement in collaborative efforts and announced in ASEAN Japan Cybersecurity Working Group Meeting in Bangkok yesterday.

The findings from the survey paint a hopeful picture of the current state of cooperation, with a majority of respondents acknowledging the significant potential and exhibiting a readiness to fortify their alliances. This optimistic outlook is a testament to the growing understanding of the need for cohesive action in tackling cybersecurity threats.

Despite the positive inclination towards cooperation, the survey brings to light several critical challenges that impede progress. A notable 54% of the cybersecurity community members emphasized the importance of building trust and mutual understanding as a primary step towards enhancing communication with government bodies. In addition, 23% pointed out that transparency in dealings is vital for a healthy partnership. These insights suggest a demand for a shift in approach, calling for increased clarity and confidence-building measures.

Moreover, respondents highlighted the effectiveness of regular interactive sessions and the formation of collaborative working groups as key strategies for improving public-private engagement. These mechanisms are seen as valuable platforms for continuous dialogue, sharing of best practices, and joint problem-solving.

In response to the survey results, the AJCCA has committed to facilitating the development of trust-building initiatives and transparent processes. This strategy aims to cultivate a more secure and cooperative digital environment across ASEAN countries and Japan, setting a precedent for public-private cybersecurity relations worldwide.
